Language is learned in the classroom

Every trust wants the same thing: pupils who thrive in the school and achieve their full potential. The ingredients aren’t a secret, but few trusts manage it.

Fluent in the corridor, stuck in the exam
Many pupils seem fluent in conversation but lack the language needed for demanding assessments. By the time it’s obvious, you’re racing to catch up.

Expensive to get wrong
Teachers lack the means to distinguish EAL from SEND, leading to unnecessary referrals that overload your SENDCOs and drain capacity from the pupils who need it.

All carried on a few shoulders
EAL provision generally rests on the shoulders of one or two passionate people. When they move on, provision falls apart.

A system that works in every school

Whether a pupil thrives shouldn’t depend on which of your schools they attend.

Effective strategies in every classroom
A toolkit of strategies for use in every lesson that grows as each teacher gains confidence.

Schools that can support each other
A common framework so that everyone’s on the same page, and expertise in one school can be used to support gaps in another.

Real insight into your schools
Clear data on which schools are doing well and which needs help, so your results don’t get lost in the averages.

Built to work without us

Want to spend time negotiating with schools and wrestling with dashboards? Buy a course or an app.

Want the time back so you can focus on the next challenge? Bring in Heddle.

Here’s how it works:

1. We audit every school

We talk to each school in turn to understand their staffing, pupils and current provision, and show you where each one stands. No more guessing which ones are coping and which aren’t.

2. HAT puts you on solid ground

Our data platform, HAT, replaces manual induction and assessment without disrupting your existing systems, so that every decision rests on what’s actually happening in your classrooms. Discreet, quick and loved by EAL leaders.

3. Ongoing school improvement

Your EAL leads draw on our library of expert resources and courses, built on one shared framework. We support them to lead whole-school improvement, so the capacity stays in your schools.

4. Insight at a glance

You get a clear view of which schools are improving and which need a push. We’ll stay in the background, working with your EAL leads and fixing problems before they need your attention. And if you need us urgently – before a surprise inspection, say – we’ll be there.

Leading MATs trust Heddle

We work with MATs around the country.

The process was invaluable. The Heddle team were responsive, professional, and a genuine delight to work with. They made what could have been a complex and technical process feel clear, collaborative and purposeful throughout. I would have no hesitation in recommending Heddle to other Trusts.
Corinne Sheehan | Co-CEO, The Spring Partnership Trust

The Heddle team have a clear vision, a huge amount of expertise and their feet firmly on the ground. I feel in safe hands.

Talk to us about your trust

Start with a short call with one of our founding team: someone who’ll be working directly with you and understands what you’re trying to achieve. We’ll follow up with a short report on the difference Heddle would make in the first term and year, for you to share with your trustees and leadership team.

Larger trusts start with a ten-school trial so that you can see how it works at scale before committing to roll it out across the whole trust.

Smaller trusts – fewer than ten schools? All the better: we’ll start everyone together.

MAT membership is £600 per school, per year. We are happy to discuss split billing between school- and central budgets.
