We are huge podcast fans at Heddle EAL. Whether we’re listening while we lug camera kit around (Daisy) or while we catch up on messages from members (Milena), there’s always something that makes us think more deeply about languages and learning.
In this post, we’ve pulled together a selection of our favourite shows and episodes. They’re all excellent — and we’ll keep this post updated so you can bookmark it and come back any time you’re looking for inspiration (thanks to members Rhona and Rachel for that suggestion).
Is there anyone we’ve missed? Let us know and we’ll add them to the list.
Kieran Mackle’s podcast is always thought-provoking. He has a particular interest in mathematics but the podcast covers everything that a “time-poor but enthusiasm-rich” primary teacher could wish for.
He has three episodes on EAL. The first (with regular guest Stuart Welsh) is a preview of the course he recorded for Heddle in January 2025. He explores some of his ideas about the language of mathematics and why the subject poses a particular challenge for bilingual pupils.
He also recorded a double episode with Heddle founder Rob, diving deep into EAL and its implications for the classroom.
You can find the full library (with video!) on their website, as well as your favourite podcast player.
We’ll be adding more of our favourite resources soon. Keep checking back 😉
