Heddle started life in 2021, as the UK emerged from lockdown and the full impact on children’s language was becoming clear. Schools needed quick, effective strategies to recover children’s lost learning and we hit the road to share what we knew.
We worked with schools all around the UK and around the world, and it was clear that one-off events weren’t going to fill the need. Teachers could get tips, some resources and maybe a few strategies but nothing that made a sustained difference to their work … and lightened the load at the same time.
And so Heddle EAL was born: a simple, affordable platform where EAL teachers can share their expertise, anywhere and anytime.
We’re motivated by a simple belief: that every teacher should feel confident teaching EAL pupils. We believe that EAL teachers are extraordinarily special people, and by making sure that they are well equipped and well supported we can spread that confidence through the sector.
Our close-knit team seeks out brilliant EAL teachers and works with them to create our courses and resources. If you have an idea for something we should cover, we’d love to hear from you!
Rob leads the team and makes sure our work has a solid foundation in evidence. He loves tricky questions so if there’s something that’s puzzling you, drop him a line!
Michael leads strategic planning, resource management, and service delivery to ensure continued high-quality support and resources are available to the community.
Milena supports our community and makes sure members feel heard and connected. She loves turning feedback into action—so if you’ve got ideas, she’s all ears!
Joanna draws on years of EAL experience and a passion for clarity to shape content, resources, and strategy for Heddle—she loves turning big ideas into practical tools for multilingual classrooms.
Daisy is responsible for the gorgeous videos on our site. From selecting filming locations to post-production, she makes sure that our teachers’ expertise really shines.
Sarah draws on years of international education experience to create and advise on content, resources, and strategy for Heddle—always keeping things practical and learner-focused.
We work with schools around the world to make sure that every teacher has the community, confidence and expertise to support EAL pupils.
